Visit the Plant Centre at Hestercombe

Plant Centre

By the Book Shop, you’ll find the Plant Centre, full of healthy, happy plants carefully grown and propagated at Hestercombe. Many of our plants come directly from the formal gardens designed by Gertrude Jekyll, with many of the varieties specified in her original planting plans.

Whether you’re looking for a special plant for your garden or a little inspiration, we’d love you to come and browse.

Take a little piece of Hestercombe home with you.

The Plant Centre is open daily from 11am–5pm and does not require admission to the gardens.

Hestercombe is now a fully cashless venue.
We accept debit and credit cards, contactless payments, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Gift Shop

The Somerset Collective Pop up

We’re delighted to work in collaboration with Sally and the Somerset Collective, bringing an ever-changing selection of beautiful and thoughtfully chosen gifts from independent makers and small creative businesses across Somerset and the South West.

From ceramics, homewares and art to skincare, crafts and artisan treats, the collection celebrates local creativity, quality craftsmanship and more sustainable ways of making and buying.

What began as a three-month pop-up at Hestercombe has now been extended until the end of the year and beyond — a testament to the success of the partnership and the wonderful response from our visitors.

Whether you’re looking for a special gift, something for your home, or simply a little inspiration, there’s always something new to discover.

Take a little piece of Hestercombe home with you.

You do not need to book gardens admission to visit Gift Shop.

The Secondhand Bookshop at Hestercombe is full of discoveries

The Secondhand Bookshop

A book lover’s paradise, the Second-hand Bookshop lends itself to some serious browsing. With a wide selection of categories covering gardening, travel, fiction, children’s books, cookery, specialist titles and more, there’s something for everyone.

Proudly run by our dedicated team of volunteers, the Bookshop is a much-loved part of the Hestercombe experience. Our volunteers take great pride in keeping the shelves stocked, discovering hidden gems and helping visitors find their next great read.

Every purchase helps to support Hestercombe, making your browsing a small but meaningful contribution to the future of this special place.

Making a book donation

The Book Shop is stocked by book donations and run by a fantastic team of volunteers, meaning all proceeds raised go directly to the Hestercombe Gardens Trust. These proceeds help us to continue with the maintenance, restoration and development of Hestercombe.

When making a donation, please bring your books in bags which you are happy to not be returned. Unfortunately, we can't accept dictionaries, encyclopedias, Reader's Digest, or books that are in dirty or very poor condition. We are incredibly grateful for your support but please follow these guidelines so that everything you donate really does help!
